Radiating Leg Pain
Pain may extend from the lower back or buttock into the thigh, calf or foot.
LONG ISLAND SCIATICA CARE
Individualized assessment for lower back pain and symptoms that travel into the buttock or leg.
Sciatica is commonly used to describe pain, burning, numbness, tingling or weakness that travels from the lower back or buttock into the leg. Symptoms may be constant or intermittent and can worsen with sitting, standing, bending, lifting, coughing or certain movements.
Radiating leg symptoms can have several possible causes. A careful evaluation is important before treatment begins. Our chiropractors review how symptoms started, identify aggravating activities, assess movement and neurological function, and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate.
When appropriate, a care plan may include chiropractic adjustments, mobility and soft-tissue techniques, therapeutic exercise, activity guidance and physical therapy. Some patients may require diagnostic imaging, medical consultation or referral depending on their symptoms and examination findings.
The goal is to address mobility and function while monitoring changes in pain, sensation and strength. Recommendations and results vary for each patient.
Pain may extend from the lower back or buttock into the thigh, calf or foot.
Changes in sensation may follow a specific area of the leg or foot.
New or progressive leg weakness requires prompt medical evaluation.
